ABOUT
Empowering young leaders to take action as global citizens
UNICEF was founded in 1946 to help children in countries devastated by World War II. Now operating in more than 190 countries and territories, it has helped save more young lives than any other humanitarian organization. Its world changing work is sustained completely by voluntary contributions.
Founded in 1947, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF is the oldest of 35 worldwide National Committees for UNICEF. Together, the national committees raise approximately one third of the operational budget of UNICEF. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF works for the survival, protection and development of children worldwide through advocacy, education and fundraising for UNICEF’s work.

WHO ARE WE?
The George Mason University Campus Initiative is a grass-root, student-led club, that partners with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to educate, advocate and fundraise on behalf of children, and in support of UNICEF’s lifesaving work. Our club is supported by U.S. Fund for UNICEF staff and by a student-led National Council. Our goal as a campus initiative is to fulfill the US UNICEF's three pillared mission within our own community: Education, Advocacy, and Fundraising.

EDUCATION
Volunteers educate themselves and their communities about UNICEF's child survival work. They do this by hosting international dinners, lectures, movies or discussions. The U.S. Fund offers education resources through TeachUNICEF as well as through online trainings.

ADVOCACY
Educational advocacy includes activities that raise awareness about child survival issues. Political advocacy involves communicating with public officials or the general public to affect legislation and public policy. UNICEF's political advocacy efforts are highly structured and overseen by the U.S. Fund for UNICEF's Office of Public Policy and Advocacy.
FUNDRAISING
This is a critical component of the volunteer experience and essential to UNICEF's global success. There are a variety of ways volunteers can raise funds. Join the UNICEF Action Center to register a fundraiser or join the Trick-or Treat for UNICEF or UNICEF Tap Project campaigns. Visit our National Map of fundraisers and clubs to find a fundraiser near you.
